Reflecting on 2016

I meant to have this post written and scheduled yesterday, but a migraine hit and looking at a computer screen sounded horrible. I spent a good chunk of the day in a cold, dark room, but it still hurt a lot. It wasn’t until I drank a Coke and took some more painkillers last night that I started to feel better. I think it was the combination of caffeine and meds at the same time that helped. Luckily I’m feeling better today.

Before I started writing this post I went through some photos of the last year that I wanted to include. While looking at the photos I realized how great 2016 has been. While it hasn’t been perfect, there’s definitely been more highs than lows. While reflecting on 2016 I’ve realized how much has happened in just 365 days. Now onto the highlights of 2016!

 AFLCA Group Exercise Textbook

I started getting group fitness certified! I know that once I first get out working in the fitness industry it’s going to be tough. I wanted to make sure I was certified before I graduated so that I would have more options. I’ve taken the classes and passed both exams. I just have to do a mock class, submit my paperwork, and I’ll be done. I’m planning on getting that done in the next few months. I’ve found that I’ve used quite a few of the things that I’ve learned in the group fitness classes in my mock personal training sessions at school too. It’s never a bad thing to have more ideas to incorporate into sessions.

NASM Certified Personal Trainer Textbook

I’ve also started my NASM certification. It’s taken me longer than I expected (I underestimated how much work it would be on top of being a full time student), but it’s slowly but surely getting done. I’m about two thirds of the way through the textbook so far. I have to admit that I’m very grateful that a lot the content is review or very similar to what I’ve already learned in school. If I was coming into this without some fitness knowledge I think I would be pretty overwhelmed. If you’re interested, check out this post on why I chose NASM.

Vancouver Trip

Although I only went on one trip this year, it was a great one. I ended up back in Vancouver for the second summer in a row. My first night there I went for a walk down by the water. I’m pretty sure if I lived there I’d have to make my way to the water at least a couple times a week. Although Vancouver is known for it’s rainy weather, I was very grateful that I didn’t see any rain for the five days that I was there.

 Vancouver Trip

One of my favorite things I did while I was there was go for a boat tour of Howe Sound. Although we were out there for a couple hours I swear it felt like 15 minutes. I got to see all kind of wildlife including lots and lots of seals. I was surprised at how many bald eagles there were too. Next time I’m in Vancouver I’ll definitely be doing another boat tour, though I’d make sure it was longer than just a couple hours because I had so much fun.

Adele

And of course, the whole reason for going to Vancouver was because I managed to get a ticket to the Adele concert! She put on an absolutely amazing show. I’m so grateful I got to see her perform live. It’ll definitely go down as one of my favorite concerts of all time. If you ever get the chance, make sure you take advantage of it. You can find a recap of my trip here.

School Testbook

As of right now I’ve completed 4 of 6 semesters of school. I have two more to go before I graduate. When I decided to go back to school in 2015 I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but I forgot how much work school actually is. No matter now much reading I do or assignments I finish, there’s always something else that needs to be done. I’m definitely looking forward to finishing at the end of June 2017 and graduating.

Have you done any reflecting on 2016? What was one of your favorite accomplishments or memories?
